- When Will the Hemp Ban Take Effect? Two Dates: Nov 12 and Dec 11, 2026
The federal hemp ban takes effect in two steps. On 12 November 2026, hemp products with cannabinoids the cannabis plant cannot make naturally leave the hemp definition. On 11 December 2026, the rest follows, including the cap of 0.4 mg total THC per container (P.L. 119-103, section 2019). Check state law too.
- Is Weed Legal in Texas? Marijuana, THCA and Delta-8 in 2026
Adult-use marijuana is illegal in Texas. Possessing 2 ounces or less is a Class B misdemeanor (Health and Safety Code 481.121). Medical use is limited to low-THC cannabis (Compassionate Use Program). Hemp delta-9 products with 0.3% total THC or less are legal for adults 21 and over; delta-8 and THCA flower are not.
Every answer shows where it came from
Cannabis rules change by the month. Every guide keeps up in three ways:
- Primary sources, linked inline. The statute, the regulator’s page or the official government notice sits right beside the claim it proves.
- Dates you can check. When a law takes effect, when we checked the source and when the page last changed.
- Exact status words. Decriminalised stays decriminalised, and a pending rule carries its start date.
Six words, used the same way on every page
“Legal” gets stretched to cover things that aren’t. We use these terms and nothing looser.
- Legal
- Adults can possess and buy from a licensed seller under the law in force.
- Medical only
- Allowed with a doctor’s card or prescription; adult use stays illegal.
- Decriminalised
- Still illegal, but small amounts bring a fine instead of arrest or a record.
- Tolerated
- Illegal on paper, with a written policy not to prosecute some conduct.
- Pending
- Passed into law but not in force yet, shown with its start date.
- Illegal
- Possession is a criminal offence, even in small amounts.
Built for the trip and the move
A legal purchase in one place can be a crime one border later. Guides for travellers separate the place you leave, the place you pass through and the place you arrive, so you know which rule applies at each step.
Patients get the same split: what a card or prescription covers at home, in another state and abroad.
Know what changes, and when
The US hemp definition changes in two stages: synthetic-cannabinoid limits from 12 November 2026 and a total-THC cap from 11 December 2026, according to the Congressional Research Service. Texas, Tennessee and other states have their own rules on top. Our guides file each change under the date it takes effect, so you know which rule applies today.
Quick answers
Why not just yes or no?
Because one place often treats each action differently. Possessing, buying, growing, using in public and travelling can each have their own status, so every guide gives the one-line answer first and then splits it.
How current are the answers?
Every guide shows when it was published and last updated, and every source shows the date we checked it. When a law changes, the page and its date change with it.
Which places do you cover?
All 50 US states and DC, plus the countries readers from the US, UK, Canada and Australia live in or travel to most, from Spain and Germany to Thailand and Japan.
